Terms of Service

• Students must be 17 or older and use a valid uoguelph.ca email.
• Landlords must own or have legal authority to list the property and pass our identity verification.
• Writers must apply and be approved.

cribb is a listing and discovery platform. We connect students with landlords, roommates, a peer marketplace that includes timed auctions (section 7a), and The Bubble, our community forum. We do not:

• Manage leases or rent payments.
• Mediate disputes between students and landlords.
• Guarantee the accuracy of listings, prices, photos, or reviews.
• Inspect properties or vouch for their condition.

You are responsible for doing your own due diligence: visiting properties, reading leases carefully, and understanding tenant rights under Ontario law.

You agree not to:

• Post false, misleading, discriminatory, or harmful content.
• Impersonate another person, landlord, or business.
• Scrape, copy, or republish listings or reviews without permission.
• Use cribb to send spam, solicit unrelated services, or run scams.
• Attempt to bypass identity verification, rate limits, or other security measures.
• Upload illegal content or content that infringes intellectual property.

You retain ownership of the content you post (listings, photos, posts, messages). By posting, you grant cribb a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to host, display, and distribute that content for the purpose of operating the platform.

Reviews are stars-only by design. We do not host review comments to reduce defamation risk.

We may verify landlord documents using automated extraction and manual review. We may remove content, suspend accounts, or revoke access without notice if we believe these Terms have been violated. We may also flag content that has been reported by the community for review.

Roommate matching is for groups of students who already know each other or want to find others through quizzes and groups. cribb does not vet roommate compatibility and is not responsible for disputes between roommates.

Marketplace transactions happen directly between buyers and sellers, whether the item was sold at a fixed price or won at auction. cribb does not process payments, hold funds, ship items, verify item condition, or mediate disputes. Meet in safe public locations, inspect items before paying, and use your best judgement.

Some marketplace items are sold as timed auctions run by the student selling the item. cribb operates the mechanics described here; the sale itself is still directly between the seller and the winning bidder, and money never passes through cribb.

• Bids are binding. Placing a bid is a commitment to buy the item at the resulting price if you win. There is no way to retract a bid once it is placed.
• Proxy bidding. You enter the maximum you are willing to pay. That maximum is not shown to the seller or to other bidders. The displayed price only rises as far as it needs to in order to keep the leading bidder one minimum increment ahead of the next-highest maximum, and never above the maximum you entered, so you can win below your maximum. If two bidders set the same maximum, the one who set it first leads.
• Bid history is public. The amounts bid on an auction are visible to anyone viewing it. You can bid anonymously, in which case you appear as a numbered bidder instead of by name; otherwise your first name and last initial are shown.
• Anti-snipe extension. A bid placed in the final minute pushes the closing time out by another minute, so an auction cannot be won by bidding at the last second. The seller sets the initial duration, between 1 hour and 7 days, and can only cancel a live auction while it has no bids. Sellers cannot bid on their own auctions.
• Winning and the 24-hour claim window. When the timer runs out, the leading bidder wins at the displayed price and a message thread with the seller opens automatically. The winner must message the seller within 24 hours to claim the item. The seller confirms the handoff once you have met.
• Runner-up promotion. If the winner does not message the seller within 24 hours, or the seller reports that the winner did not show up, the item is offered to the next-highest bidder at their maximum, and that person gets their own 24-hour window. If there is no other bidder, the auction ends with no winner and returns to the seller's drafts.
• Strikes and the three-strike lockout. A strike is recorded against a winning bidder who does not claim within 24 hours, or whom the seller reports as a no-show. At three strikes you are permanently locked out of bidding on auctions. You keep full use of the rest of cribb, including buying and selling at a fixed price.
• No appeal process. Strikes do not expire, and cribb has no built-in appeal. A strike can be triggered by a seller reporting a no-show, and we do not independently verify that report. If you believe a strike is wrong, email us (section 14) and we will look at it by hand. We can remove a strike, but we cannot promise an outcome.

cribb is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We disclaim all warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of listings, and uninterrupted service.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, cribb and its operators will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service.

Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to cribb will not exceed CAD $100.

You agree to indemnify and hold cribb and its operators (Adeoluwa Ojulari and David Amaefula) harmless from any claim, demand, or damages, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of cribb, the content you post, your interactions with other users, or your violation of these Terms.

You may delete your account at any time via Settings. We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of these Terms, illegal activity, or to protect the community.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the applicable laws of Canada. Disputes will be resolved in Guelph, Ontario.

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll announce material changes via email. Continued use of cribb after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
