Trivia Wednesday, wings Thursday: the cheap week at Guelph's breweries

Guelph makes a lot of beer for a city its size, and the taprooms are the cheapest good rooms in town. Nineteen plus for all of these, and the bus home is the 99.
Fixed Gear Brewing, 20 Alma Street South. The one with the weekly schedule. Tuesday after 5 is buy one get one taco plates, and the margaritas are buy one get one too. Wednesday is trivia at 7:30 with a proper host. Thursday is half price wings after 5 and three rounds of bingo from 8. Friday is live music. The brewhouse opens at 10 a.m. every day (until 8 Tuesday to Saturday, 7 Sunday and Monday), and there is a second Fixed Gear restaurant at 5 Edinburgh Road South if the south end is closer.
Royal City Brewing, 199 Victoria Road South, Unit C8. A beer hall in the east end, bigger and calmer. Open 3 to 10 Monday to Thursday, 11 to 11 Friday and Saturday, 11 to 10 Sunday. They run an Oktoberfest in the fall, which is the time to go with the whole house.
Wellington Brewery, 950 Woodlawn Road West. The oldest of the three and the furthest out. Their own festival, Welly BierFest, runs in September. Worth it for the tour if a housemate has a car.
How to do this on a student budget. Pick one night a week, not three. Trivia is the value play: a table of four, a couple of rounds each, and you have had a whole evening for the price of one downtown cover charge. Thursday wings at Fixed Gear is the other one.
The small print. Weekly events change with the season, so check the brewery's own page or their socials the day of. And plan the ride home before the first pint, not after.
